origins and philosophy
Let's travel back in time to find out where the values that define the personality of the best charming rural hotel in Menorca come fromthe beginning
The building that today houses the best charming rural hotel in Menorca was originally what is known on the island as a “lloc”, an old farmhouse used for livestock farming and agriculture. Specifically, the history of Biniarroca dates back to the 18th century. Until 1998, the farmhouse kept cows for cheese production, as well as an extensive vegetable garden. Then, the Briton Sheelagh Ratliff who previously worked in the demanding fashion industry in London, decided to indulge in another life away from stress in this enclave of peace, harmony and nature.
In the process of converting the farmhouse into a rural accommodation, a large part of the old agricultural and cheese-making facilities were used. The original layout of the main building, which now houses 12 of the 18 rooms, was also maintained. The red clay tiling and the sash windows – so typical of Menorcan architecture and reminiscent of the important British presence on the island – were maintained And, of course, the Menorcan barriers were also preserved, which are always open today to welcome all those who visit us.
In order to preserve the original character of the house, the gardens were designed around the native flora of Menorca. So much so that the hundred-year-old palm tree that has dominated the façade of the rural hotel since its origins is still the emblem and even the logo of Biniarroca today.
